Ask most writers why they chose to make this finicky, long-houred, and perfectionist pitfall of a job their career and they’ll probably tell you they’ve always wanted to do it. But not me – in fact, I didn’t even consider a writing career until 2019. Heck, it never even occurred to me that content and copywriting were actual jobs – which is kind of a wild thing to say in hindsight!
To me, writing careers were always reserved for authors and screenwriters. But then 2020 happened, I was between jobs, and after watching some terrible movies, I decided it was the perfect time to… meticulously craft a 50-chapter sci-fi novel out of the blue to prove that I could do it better. 180,000 (ish) words later; it still wasn’t done. But those endless hours of hard-fought frustration had taught me one very important thing – I was a lot better at writing than I ever gave myself credit for.
Smash-cut to late 2025; I’ve carved out my own role as Content Lead for a rapidly growing marketing agency in Leeds, experienced the quality of freelance work out there, and just like the book, I decided I could do it just as well, if not better. Anyway, you get the picture. I’m a writer, I’ve spent plenty of time working both in-house and on my own, and now I spend my days helping people and businesses like yours get the kind of copy they deserve – and that’s all there really is to say about it.

Why MFWritesContent? That’s a question I’ve been asked quite a few times now. Why, at a time when the market is already saturated with countless other writers and AI alternatives coming for my job (I jest, but only slightly), did I decide to go freelance? Well, if you’ve read this far, then I’m assuming you already know my answer; it’s because reliable, agency-quality freelancers are incredibly hard to find – and I mean shockingly hard.
And, for whatever reason, this really sticks in my craw.
Maybe it’s because I’ve been on your side of the fence, losing all too many hours rewriting freelanced work because the writer in question shattered their credibility by rushing it with AI. Maybe it’s because I think quality shouldn’t come at an unreasonable price. Don’t get me wrong, good copy isn’t cheap, but it shouldn’t put you over budget either. Or maybe I just like a challenge – writing an entire book and spending 4+ years in-house will give you a taste for that.
Point is, I decided something had to change. And even if I was only doing it for me, I was going to make damn sure I was delivering great work for great clients at a great price. Reliable freelancers producing good copy just shouldn’t be that hard to find. That’s what I believe. And that’s why I started MFWritesContent.
